The ‘MARSHALL Plan’ was the brainchild of U.S. Secretary of State George C. Marshall, and was crafted as a four-year plan (1948-52) to reconstruct cities, industries and infrastructure heavily damaged during the war and to make Industries competitive again through introduction of modern technologies including quality management systems.

The earliest use of ‘Computing Machines’ for non-military purposes started in this period to plan optimized shipping of tractors, food & machine tools to Europe & Tanks & other war equipment back to USA. The ‘Marshall Plan’ revitalized critical sectors and enabled them to stand on their own feet creating a chain reaction that made Europe prosperous.

The success of the ‘Marshall Plan’ inspired a young student Gautam Sarup so much that when he started the business of building machine tools in 1961, he named it Marshall Industries.

70 Years Later: a ‘New Marshall Plan’

The Indian Economy was already in mess when Covid struck in March 2020. Chinese aggression on our borders proved that its massive Industrial growth had emboldened it .

The writing on the wall now is very clear: ‘India & its economy must rise…for its Security & Prosperity’

To achieve the above objective, the effort has to be planned in a manner that uses minimum resources & has maximum effectiveness.

In an interesting twist, the descendants of Late Sh. Gautam Sarup, who run what was then Marshall Industries now as Marshall Machines have a plan, the ‘New Marshall Plan‘.

Just as the original ‘Marshall Plan’ used the THEN Cutting edge technologies of the day (including forefathers of modern computers), the ‘New Marshall Plan‘ will use Industry 4.0 technologies including Cloud computing, Data Analytics, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence to revitalize the Engineering sector within Manufacturing…which will have a ‘Domino effect’ on other sectors.

Fundamentals of the ‘New Marshall Plan’

Basic Philosophy : ‘Skill should not be required to produce basic parts with High Productivity & Zero Defects’

·       Use Cutting edge technologies to produce simple, user-friendly products that can be like ‘LOW HANGING FRUITS’, i.e. accessible, affordable & easily implementable AND these will be adopted by factories to boost PRODUCTIVITY, QUALITY & MACHINE HEALTH.

·       TRAIN people quickly with Online Classes + Practicals to make them capable of implementing the above ‘Low Hanging Fruits’ very quickly & effectively.

·       Make AUTOMATION affordable (Return on investment within 12 to 24 months).

CONCLUSION:

By implementing the above Plan, Great things will happen:

#1: Indian Manufacturing will become much more profitable.

#2: It will be able to compete with the Chinese (and others) at home & in Europe, Africa, USA & South America

#3: Huge number of manufacturing jobs will be available to our youth & we can reap the ‘Demographic Dividend’

#4: Rapid growth in manufacturing will spur growth & jobs in the Service sector.

#5: Success of the ‘Low Hanging Fruits’ of Industry 4.0 will spur implementation of suitably modified versions in Agriculture leading to the transformation of our countryside.

The ‘New Marshall Plan’ will be the catalyst which will start a ‘Virtuous Cycle’ that will usher in a ‘Golden Age’ in India.

Jai Hind.
